All foreigners living in Spain need to have their NIE, which is the Foreign Identity Number. This document is essential for people to reside officially in Spain, giving them the right to health and work, among others.
From Atemporal, we leave you the steps to follow to carry out this procedure quickly and safely.
Types of NIE
To apply for the NIE, you will have to present additional documentation depending on the reasons for the application. On the one hand, there is the option of requesting NIE to be able to reside in Spain; it can be because you are a relative of an EU citizen, or you can also request this documentation for professional reasons; in case you have been hired in a Spanish company, or you want to invest in a business.
Suppose you are applying for the NIE because you are a relative of an EU citizen. In that case, you must carry out this procedure in Spain, specifically at the corresponding General Police Office. Furthermore, to apply for the NIE, if a Spanish company has hired you, you must apply for it at the Spanish embassy in your country of residence.
Renewing the NIE, step by step:
As a first tip, please do not leave this procedure to the last minute, since like any application, it will take a few weeks or even months depending on the wait you are facing, and your NIE could expire.
