La Mercè: Experience the Barcelona's Fiesta Mayor 2024
Barcelona's Fiesta Mayor is a popular festival that dates back to 1871, in honor of the Virgin of La Mercè, named patron saint of the city in 1868 by Pope Pius IX. Since then, every year it is celebrated around September 24th and different cultural activities are organized such as concerts, open doors, guided tours, open doors and much more!
Learn about the most important activities in the city:
1.- Musical activities: between September 20 and 23 music will be the protagonist of the main festival of La Mercè. Artists from around the world will be performing on stages in different parts of the city and will host more than 100 free concerts. 2.- Terra i Gust, Sustainable Food Festival at La Mercè 2024: for lovers of healthy cuisine, the fourth edition of Terra i Gust, Sustainable Food Festival, will take place from September 20 to 22. This fair focuses on local, healthy and sustainable food. In this edition, this gastronomic festival will again be in the Ciutadella Park, where tastings, showcooking, tastings will be offered. 3.- La Mercè: Open Doors 2024: around the festival of La Mercè several centers and museums will hold an open day. Among the most prominent is the Center for Contemporary Culture of Barcelona, the Basilica of the Sagrada Familia, the National Museum of Art of Catalonia, the Macba, Palau Güell, among others. 4.- Piromusical: light and magic are also present in this festival. On September 24 at 22:00 hrs the songs that will accompany the fireworks were selected by Rosalía.
5.- Diada Castellera de la Mercè: as every year, the Plaza Sant Jaume will be the protagonist. On Sunday 22 at 12:00 hrs will take place the Diada Histórica with the castellers of Barcelona, the Minyons of Terrassa and the Colla Joves Xiquets de Valls. On September 24 there will also be Diada Castellera in Plaza Sant Jaume from 13:00 to 15:00 hrs.
